Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before you apply. Can't find your answer? Our team is happy to help.
Applying
Who can join YACE programmes?
Young people aged 16 to 45 from any country, depending on the programme. You don't need previous experience, only curiosity and respect for other cultures.
Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?
No. There is no English test requirement for YACE programmes.
How do I apply?
Choose an event that is open for applications and complete the short application form on its page. It takes about two minutes.
How are participants selected?
Through the application form. We look for curiosity, motivation and what you would bring to the group, not grades or a long CV.
I'm 16 or 17. Can I take part?
Yes, if the programme's age range includes you. Participants under 18 need written consent from a parent or legal guardian, and we may ask for a few extra forms.
Scholarships and fees
What kinds of scholarships are there?
Depending on the event, we offer fully funded, partially funded and full experience scholarships. For YACE Istanbul 2027 there are 200 scholarships: 30 fully funded, 70 partially funded and 100 full experience places.
What does a fully funded scholarship cover?
It depends on the programme. Typically accommodation, meals and the full programme, and for some events selected travel costs. Each event page lists exactly what is covered.
Is there an application fee?
Some programmes have a small application fee that covers the review of your application. For YACE Istanbul 2027 it is €14.99. The fee is shown before you apply.
Can I get a refund?
Application fees are non-refundable once your application has been submitted, except in the cases listed in our Refund Policy. The policy also explains refunds for paid packages and what happens if we cancel or postpone an event.
Travel and visas
Can YACE help with my visa?
Selected scholars and self-funded delegates receive an official invitation letter. The final visa decision always rests with the embassy.
Who arranges my travel?
It depends on your place. Some fully funded places include selected travel costs; otherwise you book your own travel. We share pre-departure guidance with every delegate.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel and health insurance for the whole trip, including cover for cancellation.
Programmes
What is the difference between a conference, a cultural event and a fellowship?
Conferences are multi-day gatherings in a host city with heritage visits, workshops, dialogue and a culture night. Cultural events are shorter and centred on one tradition. Fellowships are longer programmes for people who want to go deeper and lead projects.
What is the ambassador programme?
It is for alumni who want to keep going: represent YACE in your home country, help new delegates prepare and grow the community where you live.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Participants who complete a programme receive a certificate of participation.
Partnerships
How can my organisation work with YACE?
We partner with governments, tourism boards, cities, cultural institutions, universities, schools and companies. Visit our Partner with YACE page and send us an enquiry.
Can I join as a content creator?
Yes. Travel, culture, education and lifestyle creators can join a programme as creator delegates. Tell us about your channel through the partnership form.
